Rangers Push Saints Close

Manchester Rangers today went up against a very strong Oldham St Annes outfit that will playing 2 divisions above the Rangers in 2015. There were massive amounts of positives to be taken from today’s fixture, with Molloy’s men matching their opponents for large parts of the game.

The opening 20 minutes were very strong for Manchester Rangers, completing 98% of their sets and eventually bore the fruit of their labour when young winger George Edge crossed over for a very well taken try. The following conversion was missed by Holt to take the Rangers into a narrow but deserved 4 point lead.

The following twenty minutes were dominated by the Saints. Rangers men were unable to contain the Oldham outfit at the ruck, and eventually were on the wrong end of two tries in quick succession. Although Manchester Rangers were well and truly in the arm wrestle, at this point fatigue started to set in and Oldham took full advantage of this.

The second half was much more even throughout, although the Rangers fans would argue that their side probably got the better of the next forty. An excellent midfield kick came from an unlikely source in Connor Pridding, with former Salford academy product Tyrone Parsonnage charging on to receive the kick and score underneath the sticks. Nick Holt had no problem adding the extras.

After another midfield tussle Rangers fell victim to two tries against the run of play and once again found them selves with a small hill to climb. With a matter of minutes remaining of the game, Brian Massey broke through from inside his own half and went on to win the following foot race to the line to score the Rangers third and final try of the afternoon. Try converted by Rangers Scrum Half, Holt.

Steve Molloy’s charges shown during this pre-season friendly that they have got all it takes to compete with sides which are used to playing a much higher standard of the game.
