Univeristy of Manchester host UCLan in their first home game of the 2017/18 season at Armitage Sports Centre
The eagerly anticipated first home game for UoM is almost upon us as Wednesday 15th November sees a league of Lancastrians enter the Greater Manchester borders when UCLan roll into town. UoM started their campaign off in high flying style as they put Lancaster to the sword, running out 78 – 0 winners at the home of the Lynx just last week.
Oli Hobin is excited to be back at the Armitage;
I’m buzzing to be back at home this week. We haven’t lost on the hallowed turf in 18 months and we intend to keep it that way. We’ve spent plenty of time on our structures and we got someway to putting them in place last week. We know we can do better and we need to get everything in place early doors tomorrow in order to come away with the win.’
UCLan have had a mixed start to their campaign, gaining a comfortable win over Lancaster themselves but a loss to the Univeristy of Salford blots their copy book in the opening stages of the BUCS Northern 2A. The two teams last met almost a year ago to the day when a titanic battle eventually say UoM wrestle their way to victory with a triumphant 22 – 6 scoreline.
University of Manchester Head Coach, Matt Valentine, spoke about the forthcoming fixture;
‘I’m expecting a real battle from UCLan this week, it’s certainly going to be a tough game. I’ve heard good reports about the way they’ve been playing and what they bring to the table. Traditionally, UCLan have had a solid side with plenty of talent so I don’t expect any less when they come to visit us this week.
I was happy with the hit out against Lancaster last week and it gave us an opportunity to put some of the structures we have been working on in training into place. It’s going to be another notch up this week and we’ll have to keep the faith in our structures and keep working to them in order to come out on top. I’m confident that if we stick to our game plan the lads we will get the job done.’
