Manchester Rangers host Leigh East A this Saturday as the two teams meet for the first time in 2018.

Ricky Ward with uncompromising defence against North Wales Crusaders reserves

Leigh East A make the trip into Manchester this Saturday as Rangers look to pick up back to back wins and defend their 100% home record in 2018. The two teams met twice in 2017. Leigh East came out on top 22 – 6 on the opening day of the season but Rangers turned that deficit around with a 24 – 14 when they hosted Leigh in August.

This season Rangers have started off winning 3 from 4, the latest game being an emphatic 66 points to 6 victory over North Wales Crusaders Reserves seeing Rangers sit in second. Meanwhile, Leigh have started the season slowly, a solitary one win from four over Ulverston seeing Leigh East placed in 9th.

Manchester Rangers Coach, Matt Valentine, was wary of the East threat

Leigh may have started the season slowly this year but it doesn’t make them any less dangerous. Over the course of the past two seasons honours are even between us and we’ve both won two games each. East can beat any team in the league on their day and we can’t go into this game looking at league tables and getting complacent.

We have a good idea of what makes them tick and who their key players are, we’ll be looking to shut these down defensively to minimise the threat to our line. We had a good result last weekend but the performance wasn’t quite up to scratch, we’ll be looking to build on that in training this week and improve for Saturday. One swallow doesn’t make a summer and it’s important we build week on week to give ourselves any chance of success this year
