Garswood Stags v Manchester Rangers

On a scorching hot summers day, Manchester Rangers travelled to Garswood Stags and summer Rugby League had truly arrived.

Manchester headed into the fixture off the back of a 4 game winning streak and a desire to avenge the loss earlier in the season.

The game was to be as hot and fierce as the weather, with both teams going toe to toe in a tough and hard fought game of Rugby League. From the kick off, Manchester found themselves immediately on the back foot as a knock on in the exit set gave Garswood great early territory. The Stags didn’t pass up this opportunity and went over for the first try of the game. 6 – 0.

The Rangers then started to play their way into the game and after some good yards from the Manchester forwards, Jacob Winstanley saw an opportunity to pick up and go from 10m out and skipped his way around a number of Garswood players to go under the posts.

The game remained as a traditional arm wrestle for the entirety of the first half and as the whistle went, the game was still in the balance. 2 further tries for Garswood and 3 for Manchester in the shape of Kyle Buckley-Mayall, Brian Massey and Joe Moura Da Luz gave the Rangers a slight lead at half time.

HALF TIME: Garswood Stags 18 v 22 Manchester Rangers

The second half started as the first did, with Garswood picking up the first points and bringing the game back level. This score seemed to shock the Rangers into action and was the cue for a purple patch in the Rangers performance.

Joe Moura and Jacob Winstanley both crossed for their brace which edged the Rangers out into a 10 point lead, but the Stags were determined to stay in the game. Garswood got the next try and set the game up for a grandstand finish with only 6 points the difference.

After a sustained period of pressure on the Garswood line, the ball was worked out to the wide right where Tyrone Parsonage powered his way through a number of Garswood players and provided a dramatic swallow dive to close the game out.
